Mother's Day

We had the craziest day in nursery, photos were NOT an option. I copied this photo of Kamden from Holly's blog, I knew she would have a picture of the handprint page. I had this idea to make a page for the nursery moms with the little poem about tiny hands and have the kids put their hand print on it. Wanting a surprise for the moms I asked the dads to bring in the nursery kids and spend the first 20 minutes helping us and them. The nursery children do not like change! Every child but one cried today, even with their dads. I think it was because it was different when they got in. They were expecting nursery as usual beginning with puzzles and they got painting smocks, a covered table, paint and their dads were putting their hands in something wet and cold! It was kind of wild, OK, just plain wild! As the children finished I cleaned up as fast as I could and Chuck started story time, which they loved and quieted right down for. We only had one disaster and I hope Stephanie Putterbaugh is able to get the blue paint out of her husbands white shirt. The rest of nursery was pretty standard and enjoyable as usual and, most of the moms were real surprised.
For fathers day, NO PAINT will be used anywhere near our nursery.

After church we were invited to Steve & Barbara Wallace's for dinner.

This is a picture of Barbara's wonderful dessert, notice there is only one piece left? It was way yummy! I had to take a picture of the cake and used her recipe picture too. The angel food cake was filled with strawberries and a strawberry Bavarian type of filling then topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. It was such a light & delicious dessert I think I like this better than my Strawberry Yum Cake.

Nate & Michelle came out and spent the afternoon and part of the evening with us. Steve & Barbara made BBQ'd chicken and Lemon Potatoes. Nate loved the dinner, we all did and Michelle, I got a copy of Barbara's Lemon Potato recipe.
Steve & Barbara are such a cute couple. Steve just retired last week from 39 years of teaching at Boise State. The faculty and his students gave him a huge retirement party and tons of gifts, he will leave a big hole on that campus. One of his staff made him a scrap book of his time at Boise State beginning when he played basketball for them. It was fun seeing him as a young man. I think it was Michelle that told him he had great legs, the basket ball shorts were real shorts back then. Rosalie, their daughter was also there but left to do home work before I got her picture. She is trying to decide between two scholarship offers one to Boise State and the other to Idaho State University in Pocatello. Good luck Rosalie and thank you to our friends for a wonderful dinner & conversation.
Yes, it's us at dinner. It's not the best photo but I guess I really do look like that. After dinner we came home and played Canasta with Nate & Chelle. It was a pretty tense game with the boys team almost wiping out us girls then we rallied in the last hand to win the game. After the Nippers left I got a call from Dan, we talked for almost an hour. It was so much fun talking with him. I told him we would like to get to So Cal to visit him and he told me our visits are never long enough. Talk about pulling at my heart strings, this was a huge tug. I miss Dan & Elke so much, we never get to see them enough because of the distance between us. Speaking of Dan & Elke...Elke is graduating with her Masters from USC on the 16th. I've forgotten what her degree is in but is has something to do with public policy. Elke or Dan if you read this please correct me on your degree. I didn't hear from Ben until the next morning, no big deal he was real busy with Shaunies family. I know when he is here with us on holidays that sometimes they get so busy they forget to call her parents.
Over all I would rate this Mother's Day one of the best yet.

Thanks so much for the cute poem and handprints from nursery, I've been meaning to do one of those for Kamden but hadn't gotten around to it. I'm glad it was you with the paint and not me! I can't imagine what that would have been like with a group of nursery kids. That dessert looks so good, it's making me hungry. Glad you had a good Mother's Day!
